The Rai Swingbridge crosses the deep aquamarine blue of Rai River as part of a beautiful gentle walking circuit through totara forest (one of several walks in the area). This sturdy structure has far less swing and sway than its cousin over Buller Gorge.
It is all part of Pelorus Sound Scenic Reserve, a wonderfully preserved pocket of historic forest encrusting the far sinewy reaches of Pelorus Sound. It is a perfect stopping point between Queen Charlotte Sound and Nelson to stretch the legs and enjoy the uplifting New Zealand outdoors. Fat lumbering brown trout can be spotted sluggishly swimming upstream through the crystalline waters.

Looks like you got your fill of walking trails and swinging bridges on this trip :-)
Amazing! How long is that bridge? Looks safer than the any other hanging bridge I've known.
@barbara: Lots of short walks. The NZ paths are well maintained and well documented.
@tanaris: Considerably shorter than the Buller Gorge swingbridge and it is super stable with thick cables and a solid wooden base (not really much "swing" at all). My guess is between 50 and 70 metres.
Amazing! I don't think woul be able to walk on the bridhe though Mark you said it's safe...I get dizzy!!
@goody: I think a fair few people struggle with that kind of feeling walking across bridges. It does cut off a beauitful circuit walk however.
Fascinating picture.The bridge looks pretty dangerous but it would be a great challenge to cross it!
@vacation rentals: The bridge isn't dangerous at all but probably puts a few on edge. The view of the azure blue river and lovely gorge is superb.
I like your blog it’s look nice and attractive. I always keep in touch with your blog and going to bookmark also.
I am very thankful to you and hoping to get some more new updates from your side.
@egypt tours: Thank you.
